This is an opportunity to work within a well-established nursery and to make a real difference to the lives of children and their families. You will be able to communicate well with young children and their parents and carers and have working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Nursery is a well-established setting offering the highest standards of care and play opportunities to children aged 2.5 to 5 years of age. Our overall ethos is to nurture and establish our children’s love for learning and exploration by providing the best possible experiences and opportunities.

With a minimum of a level 3 full and relevant early years or childcare qualification, you will have experience of meeting the requirements of Early Years Foundation Stage and value your own continued professional development.

Our new buildings and facilities provide an excellent environment for teaching and learning and our large team provides many opportunities for CPD and staff development within a culture of learning for all; we were rated “Good” by Ofsted at its last inspection (May 2013).

We offer staff car parking, Local Government pension, catering facilities as well as Surrey County Councils “My Rewards” scheme of staff benefits. Visits are welcomed and encouraged; please contact Diane Haslett to arrange a visit.

Ideally, you will have practical knowledge of planning experiences that meet the requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

As part of your SEN responsibility, you will:
• collect and record all relevant background information about individual children with additional needs – and make sure that this is kept up-to-date.
• Liaise closely with parents and professionals when identifying children’s needs and planning for intervention and support.
• Give advice and support to colleagues within the setting.
• Make sure that Individual Support Plans (ISPs) are written, followed and evaluated.

You will demonstrate good interpersonal skills together with an ability to be a supportive member of our Nursery team.

About Us

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School empowered by the example of Christ, we strive to promote the education and development of our children in an atmosphere of love and mutual respect, and by so doing: Encourage each person to see themselves as a valued member of a wider community who can act independently and make a positive contribution for the good of all. Foster a sense of awe and wonder in God and in creation by giving opportunities to take a full conscious and active part in Christian celebration. Create self-discipline through an awareness of the consequences of our actions, so as to nurture positive behaviour, secure in the knowledge of forgiveness. Provide each child with access to all areas of the curriculum and supporting them to fulfill their individual level of achievement and acquire a thirst for knowledge. Impart a joy and value to the treasured gift of learning. The school opened in 1878 with 12 children in the centre of Guildford, we moved to Rydes Hill in 1960. We have benefited from two significant building programmes, which have left the school with enviable facilities These include: • Spacious classrooms (Each infant classroom has an outdoor covered area); • Many small teaching rooms; an inclusion suite of rooms; • A class sized library; a resources room; • A large staffroom with separate PPA room; • Three halls; a playing field and artificial pitch; • A purpose built attached nursery; • An Oratory for children’s, staff and parent prayer and reflection; • Deputy Headteacher’s Office; • All classrooms have Interactive Projectors or Whiteboards. The Mission of the school is understood and supported by all staff. The parents are active and supportive and contribute to the ethos of the school. 'St Joseph's cares about the development not just of the mind, but also the heart and the soul'. Quoted to OFSTED We have nearly 24 teachers, our classteachers are supported by a non class based Inclusion Team including Inclusion Manager, Deputy and School Counsellor. The Deputy Headteacher is also not class based. A well trained team of Teacher Assistants and Nursery Nurses support our teachers. The Senior Management Team is made up of Head, Deputy, Assistant Head, Phase Leaders and Year leaders. A School Business Manager leads a strong team of secretarial and admin staff. We employ two Sports Coaches to support PPA. Our caretakers complete our staffing. The majority of the staff are Practising Christians. The staff are supported by our School Counsellor and School Chaplain who provide pastoral and spiritual support for the children and community. The children are very well motivated and ready to learn. There is a positive ethos; OFSTED in 1997 described our children as charming- confident and polite in their dealings with adults. Our most recent OFSTED judged behaviour to be outstanding. The school runs a number of after school clubs, which the children and parents support enthusiastically.
