<p>Al Khor International School enjoys a growing international reputation for the quality of the education it provides. It aims to be the leading international school in the Middle East.<br /><br />AKIS is an exceptionally well-resourced school with excellent facilities. Since its inception in 1999, the school has experienced rapid growth but has been swift to develop infrastructures and resources to cope with the demand, whilst remaining at the very forefront of educational vision in the international community which it is proud to serve.<br /><br />The school is owned by Qatar’s renowned national companies, Qatargas and RasGas. <br /><br />The school is a member of the British Schools of the Middle East organisation – BSME - the largest collective organisation of British international schools. The school is accredited by Qatar's Supreme Education Council, by BSME and in 2013 it became just the second Qatar school to receive the UK Department for Education's British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation.<br /><br />The school primarily serves to provide education for children of employees of the two companies and a limited number of Qatari nationals who live in the area.<br /><br />Al Khor International School is located some 35 kms from the capital Doha, in an attractive purpose-built community of some 8,000 residents with its own medical centre, bank, shops and twenty-four hour security. The community’s accommodation is of a high standard and comprises well-appointed villas and spacious apartments set amidst lush green landscaped gardens. Situated near the coast with its own beach club and golf course, it has excellent leisure and sporting facilities with swimming pools, tennis courts, squash courts, high tech gyms, restaurants and coffee shops. Teachers live in the community or in large villas within very high quality compounds in Al Khor town. All teachers have full access to all the Al Khor Community’s facilities. <br /> <br />The school has two curriculums in separate campuses within the single school. Most children follow the British national curriculum, a large minority follow India’s Central Board of Secondary Education curriculum.<br /><br />The British curriculum follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales for pupils aged 4 to 16, leading to GCSE and IGCSE examinations. The curriculum culminates with AS and A Levels for students aged 16 to 18.</p>
