Welcome to George Salter Academy or “Georges”, as it is affectionately named by students and the community alike. The Academy is run on the family values of love, care, loyalty and mutual respect, and its overriding ethos is that of a large family.
Students are treated as individuals and choose, or are advised, to follow curriculum programmes suited to their academic and personal abilities and needs.
We also offer a varied and vibrant Study Support Programme and are particularly proud of the Sporting and Arts opportunities available to all of our students.
In short, we seek to follow the advice/wise words of Michael Alexander and endeavour to search for the talent which lies dormant in everyone: “A school without failure, where all children leave school having identified a talent, a skill, an intelligence through which they can become whatever they want to be.”
George’s students and staff hold dear 6 mates:
(Self) – MOTIVATE; COLLABORATE; CELEBRATE; COMPASSIONATE; INNOVATE; CREATE.
These are our core values and are central to all that we do. Hence, there is a close sense of “belonging” to the Academy and of “looking out” for one another whether it is by supporting one of our many public performances or simply by consoling one another “in times of trouble.”
Finally, G.S.A. extends its warmth to its community, and we offer very impressive programmes of events in the evenings, at weekends and/or during holidays for all age groups.
The Academy strives against complacency, promotes humility but is highly “output – driven”. Thus we are quietly proud of our journey from 2003, when the “George Salter High School” had slumped to the verge of closure, to the present day when the following outputs have been achieved:
-The best value added GCSE results in Sandwell for the past six years; in so doing, we have seen a rise from 16% 5A*-C to 97% 5A*-C, and from 10% 5A*-C, including English & Maths to 56%.
-The creation of our own Sixth Form. In the past five years we have increased our recruitment from 50 to 200 and cater for all ability levels. Moreover, our results are impressive when analysed against value added and national criteria: APS per student 801; APS per students 214.
-The best participation rates in the Arts in the Black Country and a fast growing programme for PE/Sport.
-A multi – faceted Study Support programme including a wide variety of trips/residential both in the UK and abroad.
-The best Sports facilities of any school in Sandwell through fund bidding from NOF and Sport England. There will also be a £12.4 million facelift to the remainder of the Academy during the next 2 and a half years.
-A happy and harmonious multi- cultural Academy which was judged as “OUTSTANDING” BY Ofsted in January, 2010. In particular, they praised our ethos and endorsed a student comment from a previous inspection which highlights that we are indeed: “One world in one school”
