All parents sign a code of conduct. There are rules which apply across all classes. Rewards and sanctions are clearly defined.
Pupils are grouped according to ability. There is an enormous ability range within each year group. This grouping enables teachers to differentiate lessons across a much narrower ability range.
There is a rigoursly enforced uniform.
Pupils receive homework every day. This is monitored closely. A "homework hotline" is in operation for parents whose children go home and say they have no homework.
All pupils study a GNVQ subject in Year 10 and Year11. Our thriving sixth form run a number of successful GNVQ's which build on the work of Y 10.
A successful inspect in 2001 made many postive comments about the school.
"This is a happy school where pupils from a wide range of cultural backgrounds get on well with one another. Relationships between pupils and their teachers are good and there is an atmosphere of co-operation and hard work"
